Bespoke Commissions: Frequently Asked Questions.


How long does a commission take?

Naturally it does vary (depending on the complexity of the design, plus how many different designs you require), but generally it takes four to six weeks. This includes time for the creation of ideas (having heard all about your requirements), development of your preferred design, alterations where agreed and the finalisation of print-ready files. If you wish to have your illustrations framed, I offer beautiful frames made to order.

Do you provide printing?

I do! I work with two specialist print studios; one of whom print and frame my wedding artwork and gifts, while the other takes care of all my printed stationery. Both are based right here in the UK and both provide exceptional print quality and attention to detail, so you can be sure that your wedding stationery is finished to absolutely the highest possible standard.

Can I purchase just the digital file?

Yes of course! In this case, the only fee you will receive is what’s called my ‘Design Fee’. This is based simply on the number of hours I expect a commission to take me. Thereafter if you wish to print your wedding stationery yourself, that’s absolutely fine. If you intend to email your invitations for example, just let me know and I will also provide the appropriate file sizes.

How much will it cost?

Every project quote includes the consultation (email and/or phone communication), the design, revisions where agreed, printing and additional items where needed. All projects are different and there are many variables (paper type, quantities, complexity of designs etc). If you would like to print the designs yourselves or of you are thinking ‘green’, then I will quote for my Design Fee only. For an idea of my prices, please take a look at my prices. I have decided I would like to commission you for my project, what happens next?

Having understood what you require I will provide you with a quotation. If you are happy to proceed I will invoice you for a deposit which is equal to 50% of my Design Fee. You will also receive a copy of my Terms and Conditions. I take payment of the deposit as acceptance of my Terms and Conditions. Then we can begin your project!

Do you ever tweak another couple’s design by changing the illustration of the people etc?

No. Each project is started from the very beginning, so every client has a totally bespoke design.

Can I commission a project that I can’t see examples of on your website?

Yes, certainly! I will make an effort to design anything you may require as part of your wedding stationery package.

Do I have to have an illustration of myself and my partner as part of the design?

No, you tell me what you want pictured – it’s your stationery! You may want an illustration of an animal, object or place that means something special to you both instead.

I have seen another artist’s illustrations I like. Can you copy their style?

No. I have my own illustration style, which I hope you like and I do not copy other artists’ work.

I want to commission you for something, but I don’t know exactly what I want. What do I do?

Don’t panic! I will work closely with you and ask you many questions about you and your partner to get an idea of what might work. I will come up with some ideas to provide you with original wedding stationery that reflects your personalities and fits in with your wedding day. Where agreed I will revise the artwork as you wish.

How will my project be delivered?

Stationery and artwork is sent by courier, so someone will need to sign for the package on arrival. This is not a guaranteed next day service, but orders usually arrive within 1 to 2 business day from dispatch (please note dispatch from my printing company may take up to 10 working days).

How much do you charge for printing my wedding stationery?

This varies from project to project depending on the quantities you require, paper type, envelope choice etc. I will quote for printing once I know your requirements, so please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Can I print my stationery myself?

Yes of course! If you wish to organise your own printing or if you have decided on a ‘green’ paperless invitation via email, I will supply you with the digital file(s) necessary.

Can you work outside of Suffolk?

Yes! I illustrate all projects from my studio at home, and most projects can be discussed via phone and/or email.

What if I want to make changes to a design you send me?

That’s absolutely fine. In most instances, basic revisions to the artwork are included in the price. I will outline details of this when I send you a quote for the work you have requested. If you require further revisions or complete re-design of a project, this may incur an additional fee.

How do I pay?

The invoice you receive from me includes details for making a BACS payment (online bank transfer). If you would prefer via PayPal that’s fine too (please note though, that this does require an additional, small processing fee). I ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit upon acceptance of the commission. I ask for the 50% remaining balance upon completion of the project before emailing/posting it to you.
