I live in Stradbroke, Suffolk, where I have the pleasure of working from a beautiful, little room overlooking my pretty garden. I love long walks (beach walks are my fave!), pottering about in my garden, chatting to my cat and the odd LARGE glass of red!
My home is a very happy place, where each morning I am powered by a huge bowl of porridge. I fill my days with working on all my lovely customers’ illustrated projects and have the best companions to keep me company. My cat, Bessy is always nearby, as is the always supportive man in my life, Tom (when he isn’t busy, working his day job).
So, where did it all start? Following a three year degree in Lingerie Design at De Montfort University, I became a Lingerie Designer for a supplier to Marks and Spencer and Boux Avenue.
At the close of 2012, after almost four years of invaluable experience, I decided that this immensely challenging role wasn’t for me long term. I longed to get back to basics, and realised all I wanted to do was draw. Something I have always loved, ever-since spending endless hours as a child wrapped up in a drawing of some sort or another. I seem to remember my grandparents had to buy an endless supply of extra pink-coloured, felt-tip pens – it was my colour of choice! So, in January 2013 I made the leap, and I became self employed as a Freelance Illustrator, pursuing my lifelong passion for drawing. I can honestly say, I have never looked back.
My drawings are influenced by many things - one I can’t help but to acknowledge is my long-standing love affair with Disney films. Yes, I know I am a little old for all that, but it honestly it’s the drawings which I truly admire. The scenery, the animation, the range of characters – it’s all fab! The heroines are beautiful with huge eyes and enviable hairstyles, and the heroes are, lets face it, the most amazingly (sometimes unrealistic…but what’s wrong with that), chiselled, good-looking men. I think it’s quite apparent in many of my illustrations, that there is an undertone of living in a fairytale world. Of course, I enjoy singing my heart out to all the songs too…I know every word!
Another key ingredient to the way my style has evolved is, without question, the non-sewing and illustration modules I relished at university. It was here that I started to hone my drawing style and was encouraged to draw exaggerated fashion figures. It was also where I was taught the majority of my digital illustration skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator (though I am a firm believer that you never stop learning these kind of skills).
Lets get started.
It’s incredibly easy to commission me as I work from photographs and your descriptions to create distinctive, unique drawings of you, your family, your pets, your home and all the things that are special to you. So don’t hesitate to get in touch with ideas for your illustrated project. Send me photos, and details of your drawing and (after providing you with a quote), I will take it from there. I can even take care of printing and framing too, to make commissioning a Hannah Weeks Illustration as breezy as possible, for you.
I look forward to hearing from you and can’t wait to get started on the next drawing
I am available for commercial illustration work now.
